OUR STORY SO FAR
Three years ago we began an adaptation of the novel for stage. However, like so many projects, we had to put it on pause. In 2025, I joined the Directors Programme at the Mercury Theatre, while there I met Tom Milton (I love serendipidy!) who invited us to do Kitty in collaboration with Black Brook Theatre. So, with a new team, and some of the old, we are building on all we had learned and are finally on our way! You can follow us on our social media links where you will be introduced to our team and cast. Hope to see you there.
MEET THE ACTORS
Rehearsals are underway. The energy and enthusiasm with which the cast are approaching this sweeping drama is extraordinary. There are as many moves as there are lines, as we take Kitty through season, time and place. We have a wonderful violinist, Sarah Gardner, and folk singer, Angela Blacklaw, who plays Judith, Kitty's Ma. Who will set the mood. Much still to do. But we are on our way!

THE R&D

We held an R&D workshop in 2024 with professional and local actors, who worked together to develop the physical theatre elements of the production. It will be this that leads Kitty's story through time and place. Working with these wonderful creatives was truly inspiring.
Thank you to Lifehouse Spa and Hotel for their sponsorship of our workshop space.
THE INSPIRATION
It was during lockdow that I heard Kitty's story and began to walk the backwaters that Kitty walked 300 years previously. And so the novel was born. Check it out here
During the adaptation, with a small team we took to the back-waters, and imagined Kitty walking the same ground on which we stood. We worked on the adaptation over many months. Adapting a novel into a play proved to be very challenging, but through many hours of laughter and strees, it turned out very rewarding.
